Q: How does the Accent H2O Natural System work?
A: Every time the pool pump runs, the Accent H2O Natural System’s oxygen electrodes deliver a small, low-voltage electrical shock to your water as the water passes through the pressure line in a process called oxidation. Once per week the owner needs to test the pH and copper levels of the pool. Depending on the results of the tests, the owner should switch the Electronic Control Unit to Ionize mode and ionize for 4 – 8 hours, depending on the pool’s size and capacity. The Ionize mode will put copper into the pool, which also functions as a great algaecide and is deadly to viruses.
The two modes of the Accent H2O Natural System are called Oxidization and Ionization. Oxidation mode splits water molecules and then creates two powerful oxidizers: oxygen atoms (OH) and hydroxyl ions (H). These two oxidizers help with disinfection of water and eliminate body oils, sunscreen, and dead organic matter. The second mode of the Accent H2O Natural System is copper ionization. The split water molecules then pass over copper plates, charged with the same low-voltage electrical current used in the oxidation mode. This causes copper ions to be released into the water. This copper ionization is the most effective form of algae and fungal control available on the market today.
Q: Is the system easy to install and operate?
A: Yes, the system is very straightforward to maintain. As mentioned in the Installation section of our website, installation of the Standard and Turbo models can be easily completed in 30 – 45 minutes. Operation of the system requires weekly testing of the pH and copper in the pool water and, based on the tests, simply flipping a switch similar to a light switch a couple of times a week. The system should take no more than 5 – 10 minutes a week to maintain. If the pH and copper tests indicate that more ionization time is needed, simply push the ionization box on the Electronic Control Unit up one level until the weekly tests show that the copper level is stable somewhere between 0.5ppm – 0.7ppm. The Accent H2O Natural System will allow you to spend less time on your pool water and allow you to clean the pool baskets and filters that require regular maintenance faster.

Q: Is the copper in the water safe for people?
A: Absolutely. The Accent H2O Natural System runs pools at 25% of the safe drinking water levels for copper according to the Environmental Protection Agency. In fact, if you managed to drink 2.5 gallons of pool water, you would ingest the amount of copper found in just one multi-vitamin. For reference, the average parts-per-million (ppm) of the copper in the Accent H2O Natural System is 0.5ppm – 0.7ppm. The EPA recommends a maximum contaminate level of 1.30 ppm.
In addition, the copper in the water will actually be beneficial for your plants. Hydroponic farms, for example, add large amounts of copper to their nutrient solutions. In the same way, the copper found in the pool water will be beneficial to your plants.

Q: How long do the copper bars last, and what does it cost to replace them?
A: The copper bars will last for about 2 – 3 years, depending on the size of the pool, the length of the pool season, and the calcium hardness of the water. The bars cost about $125 to replace, and can be replaced by the owner of the pool with just a screw driver and 10 minutes of time. The titanium bars should never wear out, and therefore never need to be replaced.

Q: Does this mean that I will never have to use chemicals again?
A: The only reason to add chemicals to the pool will be to control pH. You need to neutralize pH to maximize the bacteria-killing effectiveness of the oxygen and copper. The Accent H2O Natural System works best with a pH of approximately 6.8 – 7.2, which is slightly below neutral. If it becomes necessary to increase the pH of the water, we recommend using baking soda, available at grocery stores. However, if it becomes necessary to lower the pH of the water we recommend the use of muriatic acid, which can be purchased from any discount building supply store. If you mismanage your pH or copper level and get an algae bloom we might suggest using a quart of non-metal algaecide or a few pounds of non-chlorine shock. Other than typical pool-maintenance chemicals, the pool requires no regular chemicals for sanitation purposes.

Q: How does the Nat.H2O compare to salt-to-chlorine generating devices, or other pool systems?
A: The Accent H2O Natural System is superior to salt-to-chlorine generators in many ways. First, pool and spa water treated with the Accent H2O Natural System is preferred by virtually every person that has had the opportunity to swim in a pool treated with our system versus a pool treated with a salt-to-chlorine generator. Secondly, water in our system a treated pool is free of all sanitizing chemicals and has the feel and taste of bottled water. Salt-to-chlorine generators produce chlorine and can adversely affect pool equipment, liners, covers and the swimmers. The discharge water from a pool treated with a salt-to-chlorine generator can contaminate soil and ultimately kill vegetation and sterilize the soil. For a complete list of comparisons between Accent H2O Natural Systems and other types of systems, read the Comparison page.
This system also does not work like a water softener. Water softeners use salt (sodium chloride or potassium chloride) to create sodium or potassium ions to exchange with the existing calcium ions, found in the calcium carbonate that is suspended in the water. This action removes the “hard” part in the water. The Accent H2O Natural System changes the suspended calcium carbonate into calcium bicarbonate. The calcium bicarbonate can then form a precipitate or fall out of solution. Because of this, small water spots can appear, but are easily wiped or rinsed away.

Q: My pool person says this will not work. What should I do?
A: Ask your pool person about pools that he has seen where the Accent H2O Natural System did not work. Chances are, the pool person is not familiar with these systems or has confused the our system with another, alternative system. All of our equipment comes with a 60-day money-back guarantee. For customer satisfaction issues, we would be interested in the name of the unsatisfied customer. We receive very few returns and provide technical support for all of our customers.

Q: How much would I save with a Accent H2O Natural System?
A: If chemicals are being used to sanitize, control algae, or to clarify the pool’s water, they will no longer need to be used. If the pump is currently being run more than 8 – 12 hours per day, electricity bills will be lower because of having to run the pump less. If the pool needs to be back-washed more than twice a month, less water will need to be used, therefore saving money on the water bill. The actual savings amount will vary depending on the size of the pool, the type of sanitation currently employed, the length of the season, and numerous other factors. While the system will easily pay for itself in a few years, money is only one of the reasons a pool or spa owner should buy a Accent H2O Natural System. Health and safety issues are equally, if not more, important than the economics of owning the system.
Q: Will the copper stain my pool?
A: The amount of copper being added to your pool is significantly less than what is needed to cause staining. If the system is not operated properly and the pH rises significantly and the system is left on ionization for a prolonged length of time staining could possibly result. In some cases, because of the conversion of the calcium carbonate into calcium bicarbonate, “water spots” can occasionally appear in the pool. These water spots can be easily brushed, wiped, or rinsed away.
